The Academy of Language Studies was established in 1972 for the purpose of co-ordinating the learning and teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL), as well as that of other Asian and European languages to all the students of UiTM. Prior to this date, the teaching of these languages was decentralised according to the needs of different disciplines. With the setting up of this nerve centre, UiTM’s language curriculum was formulated to cater for the ever-growing number of students who need to be proficient not only in the English language, but also in a third language. This language competency gives UiTM students a competitive edge in the job market. |

My_CASELT 2008 Texturing ELT for New World Realities 29 - 31 October 2008 The ELT landscape continues to evolve to meet changing realities of its global communities. As teachers of English from around the world forge ahead to meet challenges head on, we need to reflect, review, rethink and redefine the relativity of English in the new world. What we collectively bring into the profession, textures ELT into a rich tapestry. This conference serves as a platform for the coming together of ideas that will continue to texture and enrich ELT with innovative ideas from emerging cultures to meet these challenges. The sub-themes of this conference are geared towards insightful and exciting thoughts and discussions on the direction that ELT is unfolding.
